I toured their offices, spoke with affiliates, did my research and concluded that BrokerTeam Group was an organization that I wanted to be a part of. We had a common vision of working together and helping each other succeed. The process of opening my own brokerage with BrokerTeam Group was very smooth. We met in November, incorporated a month later, and was open for business in May with 17 insurance companies. BrokerTeam offered a lot of support but also gave me independence. Conversations were always about what they could do to support me but there was no pressure. I get the benefits of having my own business while also being a part of a larger family.

I always wanted to own my own brokerage but I struggled with that decision because I knew it was the path of hard work and more risk. Making the move to ownership has made me stronger and helped me appreciate things more. I have been challenged more than ever and learned how to do every job in a brokerage. It has helped me relate to my colleagues’ challenges and makes me a better leader since I can not only empathize, but sympathize as well. My advice to brokers considering the move to ownership would be to not do it unless you have the right support system at home and at the office.

While I had management experience under my belt, the executive team at BrokerTeam Group helped me learn about various business models, ways of looking at finance, and the different ways to run operations. It was also useful to speak to other affiliates like David Moghaddas and Calvin Kwok on their perspectives of running a brokerage. I try to immerse myself in the group as much as possible because there is a wealth of knowledge and experiences within our family. Broker Team Group is made of a lot of good people from top to bottom. We are a group running a top-level business but at the end of the day we are a family that shares our successes together.
